Celebrity Cruises Infant & Minor Travel Policy
Celebrity Cruises has established specific age and documentation requirements to ensure the safety and comfort of all guests traveling with infants, children, and minors.
Infant Age Requirements
- Infants must be at least 6 months old on the first day of the cruise.
- For Transatlantic, Trans-Pacific, Hawaii, select South America itineraries, and other designated sailings, infants must be at least 12 months old at the start of the voyage.
- Cruises featuring three or more consecutive sea days, including scenic cruising, also require infants to be 12 months or older on embarkation day.
- Due to onboard medical facility limitations, no waivers or exceptions are granted for infant age requirements.
Stateroom Occupancy & Minimum Age to Sail
Minimum age to sail without an adult:
- Europe, Asia, South America, New Zealand, or Australia departures: 18 years old
- All other departure ports: 21 years old
Guests who do not meet the minimum age requirement must be accompanied in the same stateroom by an adult who meets the applicable age requirement.
Exceptions
- Children traveling with parents or legal guardians in connecting staterooms are exempt.
- Adjacent staterooms (next door or directly across the hall) are not considered connecting unless occupied by minors traveling with parents or legal guardians.
- Married couples, including same-gender couples, aged 16 and older on non-North American sailings may share a stateroom without an accompanying adult, provided valid marriage documentation is submitted in advance.
Booking & Documentation Requirements for Minors
- Reservations for guests under 21 years old must be made by contacting a Celebrity Cruises booking office, as online bookings are not accepted.
Adults traveling with a minor under 18 years old who is not their child or legal ward must present the following at embarkation:
- A valid passport and applicable visa for the minor (or a certified birth certificate for domestic Australian sailings)
- An original notarized or legally affirmed letter of authorization signed by at least one parent or legal guardian
- The letter must authorize the accompanying adult to travel with the minor, supervise them, sign waivers, and consent to medical treatment if required
- The authorization letter must be notarized or legally affirmed by a solicitor, notary, or commissioner for oaths. Failure to provide proper documentation may result in denied boarding without refund or compensation.
- If a parent or guardian traveling with a minor has a different last name, official documentation proving the relationship (such as a full birth certificate or legal papers) must be presented.
Onboard Age Restrictions

Evening Dress Code on Celebrity Cruises

- Smart Casual and Above
Women may wear skirts, trousers, blouses, or sweaters without rips or tears. Men should wear trousers with a collared shirt or sweater. Sleeveless shirts, T-shirts, swimwear, robes, tank tops, flip-flops, shorts, baseball caps, and bare feet are not permitted in the Main Dining Room or Specialty Restaurants during evening hours. Guests are also asked to follow Smart Casual and Above attire in the Celebrity Theater for evening performances.
- Formal Evenings
Formal nights invite guests to dress up for an elegant evening. Women may wear cocktail dresses, gowns, or dressy pantsuits. Men may choose a tuxedo, suit, or dinner jacket with slacks. Formal attire is required only in the Main Dining Room on designated formal evenings.
- Specialty Restaurants
All Specialty Restaurants, including Blu for AquaClass® guests, follow a Smart Casual and Above dress code every night. Formal wear is optional in these venues.
- Renting Formalwear
For added convenience, guests may arrange formalwear rentals for delivery directly to their stateroom. Tailored options are available through Cruiseline Formalwear, making it easy to dress for formal evenings without packing extra luggage.
Fuel Surcharge Policy
- Celebrity Cruises has suspended its fuel supplement for all sailings, ensuring greater pricing transparency and value for guests. Travelers booked on cruises departing on or after January 1, 2009, are eligible for automatic adjustments or refunds of any fuel supplement previously charged.
- Guests who have already paid in full for eligible sailings will receive a refund of the fuel supplement in the form of an onboard credit, which will be applied automatically during their cruise. Guests who have not yet completed final payment will see the fuel supplement automatically removed from their remaining balance, with no action required.
- For U.S.-based bookings, Celebrity Cruises reserves the right to reintroduce a fuel supplement if the price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil exceeds $65 per barrel. Should this occur, the supplement will be capped as follows:
First and second guests: up to $10 per guest, per day, with a maximum of $140 per cruise
Additional guests: up to $5 per guest, per day, with a maximum of $70 per cruise
Celebrity Cruises is committed to maintaining competitive cruise pricing while managing fuel-related cost fluctuations responsibly.
Payments / Refunds
Deposits & Payments
Standard stateroom deposits are flat rates: $100 per guest for 1-5 nights; $250 for 6-9 nights; and $450 for 10+ nights and Galapagos cruise tours. Suite categories carry separate minimums: $200 per guest for 5 nights or less; $500 for 6-8 nights; and $900 for 9+ nights. Final payment is due 75 days prior for short cruises (1-4 nights), 90 days prior for standard cruises (5 nights or longer), 120 days prior for selected extended cruises (15+ nights), and 150 days prior for Galapagos. Refundable deposit fares are fully refundable before final payment. Non-Refundable Deposit Fares (NRDB) are forfeited upon cancellation but issued as a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) minus a $100 per person administrative change fee.

Smoking Policy
For the comfort and well-being of all guests, Celebrity Cruises ships are primarily non-smoking environments. Smoking is permitted only in clearly designated outdoor areas and is strictly prohibited throughout the majority of the ship.
- Smoking including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and electronic cigarettes or vaping devices is not allowed in any indoor public space. This includes all dining venues, casinos, theaters, lounges, hallways, elevators, and corridors. Smoking is also prohibited inside all staterooms and on private verandas.
- Guests who violate this policy will be assessed a $250 USD cleaning fee, which will be charged to their SeaPass® account, and may be subject to additional disciplinary action under the Guest Conduct Policy.
- All tobacco products must be disposed of properly using designated receptacles and must never be discarded overboard. Guests must be 18 years of age or older to purchase, possess, or use tobacco products while onboard.
- Please note that all Celebrity Cruises Cruisetour land-based components are also strictly non-smoking. Celebrity Cruises appreciates your cooperation in helping maintain a clean, comfortable, and enjoyable environment for all guests.
Travel Protection
Celebrity Cruises offers CruiseCare Travel Protection. This combines a cancellation penalty waiver for covered reasons with a 90% Future Cruise Credit (FCC) under a Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) enhancement for unlisted reasons (valid for one year if cancelled up to departure). Underwritten insurance benefits include trip interruption (150%), delay ($2,000), accident/sickness medical ($25,000), evacuation ($50,000), and baggage ($1,500). To waive the pre-existing medical condition exclusion, the plan must be purchased within 14 days of the initial deposit and 100% of the trip cost must be fully insured.
Tipping Policy
Daily service gratuities are automatically billed to the SeaPass account: Standard staterooms (Inside, Oceanview, Veranda) are charged $19.50 USD per guest, per day; Premium staterooms (Concierge Class, AquaClass) are charged $20.50 USD; and Suites in The Retreat are charged $24.50 USD. Guests can choose to prepay daily gratuities up to 2 days prior to sailing. These tips are discretionary and can be adjusted (up, down, or removed) onboard at Guest Relations prior to disembarkation. An automatic 20% service charge/gratuity is added to all beverage purchases (and beverage packages), specialty restaurant reservations, and spa/wellness treatments.
Dress Code
Daytime wear is casual resort wear (sundresses, shorts, polos). Indoor venues require cover-ups and footwear over swimwear. In the evening, the standard dress code is “Smart Casual” for entry to the main dining room, specialty restaurants, and the theater. This includes dresses, skirts, long pants, or nice jeans with stylish tops or button-downs. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed at dinner.
Formal Nights
- Each itinerary features one to two “Evening Chic” nights. Guests are encouraged to dress in glamorous and sophisticated attire (cocktail dresses, blazers, skirts, designer jeans). Tuxedos and evening gowns are welcome but not mandatory. Guests who prefer not to participate can dine in Smart Casual wear in other venues.
